Madrid will promote the construction of 2,000 social housing residences in Berrocales.

Jorge Rodrigo, the Regional Minister for Housing, Transport and Infrastructure of the Community of Madrid, visited Berrocales to take a firsthand look at the progress of the most advanced urban planning development project in the city, where the Community has set aside land for the construction of up to 2,000 residences with some form of government protection, thus strengthening its commitment to improve access to affordable housing.

During the visit, he was accompanied by the Manager of the Social Housing Agency and the Community of Madrid’s Director General of Housing. He was also informed that the first residences are expected to be delivered in the first quarter of 2026.

In total, Berrocales involves the construction of more than 22,000 residences, more than half of which will receive some form of government protection.

On Friday, 14 March, Berrocales participated in the Infrastructure Forum organized by the Association of Civil Engineers.

Promoted by Madrid City Council, the event brought together the urban development projects that make up the Southeast Strategy of Madrid’s General Urban Development Plan and provided the developers of Los Berrocales with an opportunity to present their vision of a city based on innovative, sustainable concepts such as superblocks and the reclamation of degraded land.

 

José Luis Martínez-Almeida, the Mayor of Madrid, visited Berrocales today to announce the SUMA Plan, a new municipal housing programme that aims to promote the construction of subsidized housing in which Berrocales will play a leading role as the most advanced project in terms of management and urban planning of Developments in the Southeast.

Located on the city’s southeastern edge and representing a model for the future that features public and private collaboration, Berrocales continues to take firm steps towards making 22,000 new residences available to citizens, half of which will be under some kind of government protection.

On 5 and 6 June, elEconomista organized the IV Gran Jornada Inmobiliaria Conference: A Year of Opportunities for the Industry, which attracted some of the most important pundits in real estate.

Among them was Luis Cesteros de la Peña, manager of Berrocales, who took part in the round-table discussion on the problem of rising housing prices and discussion of the different solutions proposed.

Time was also set aside at the event to talk about the Berrocales development and its successful urban planning model based on public-private collaboration to promote more than 22,000 residences, half of which will be public housing.

The Board of Compensation of Berrocales welcomed the Women in Real Estate Spain (WIRES) Association to the site today. A group of about 30 members of the Association spent the morning with the Manager and the technical team of Berrocales. In a presentation at the Board’s offices and a subsequent visit to the urban planning works, Association members received a firsthand account of the status of the works and the magnitude of the Berrocales project.

WIRES is an association of female directors and managers in the real estate world that aims to increase the visibility of women in the industry, improve their executive careers and boost their participation in the decision-making bodies of real estate companies and organizations.

As from Wednesday, Berrocales and Ensanche de Vallecas are connected. Two new bridges over the A-3 provide a crossing for vehicles, bicycles and pedestrians.

This milestone coincided with another novelty at the new urban development: construction of the first residences in Berrocales will begin in 2024.

These will be the first 1,125 residences of the 4,500 planned in this first stage. Consisting of more than 8 million m2, the Berrocales southeastern development aims to build 22,000 residences, half of which will be subsidized.
